Safety Guidelines

Please read before commencing your bear

It is ESSENTIAL that all the Angelbears we send out to hospitals are sturdy, safe and hygienic so they fully comply with the below
regulations. All bears will be quality tested so please follow these simple rules so we have no wasted bears.

1. Use CLEAN, new wool only. If you are using wool from your stash (we all have one!) please wash first. Our bears will come into close
contact with immuno-compromised children so cleanliness is vital. Also try to avoid the 'fluffy' type angora wool as this is not safe
for infants and we want bears to be suitable for all ages.
2. 'Angelbears' have been designed to be very easy to knit. The pieces are small so please do not use any pins or clips when making up.
Hypo-allergenic polyester toy filling is ideal for these bears.
3. Please sew all seams firmly so they cannot be pulled apart by small hands.
4. Please ensure the features are embroidered on. Do not add any 'extras' such as buttons, ties or ribbons.

Here are the actual British Standards Agency Guidelines :

BS EN 71 Safety of Toys

British Standards Institution (BSI)

MATERIALS
"Toys containing fibres of straightened length greater than 50 mm and attached to a fabric base shall carry a warning. "Caution! Not
suitable for children under 10 months due to long hair."
"Material used in toys shall be visually clean and free from infestation. The material is assessed visually by the unaided eye rather than
under magnification."

FILLING
"Soft filling materials shall not contain any hard or sharp contaminants, such as metal particles, nails, needles and splinters."
"Filled soft toys must not produce surface flash when near a flame."

JOINTS & SEAMS
"Seams and joints are tested as part of the whole toy. If a seam splits, the fillings can become a danger as a child may choke on them."

FEATURES
"All features must be securely attached."
